Today we were able to fly with one of the last DC3s certified for passenger flight.
In New Zealand, one of the last DC3s certified for passenger flight is in service, the Southern DC3.
Unfortunately, the whole thing started with a long delay. The right engine could not be started because condensation had formed in the wrong place in the engine case (somewhere near the ignition) due to the bad weather. Unfortunately, none of the people present were allowed to open the engine and dry the spot. Therefore, we had to wait until a certified mechanic was able to solve the problem with a few tweaks.
The clouds from the morning's rain had not completely cleared by the time of the flight. Therefore the photos did not turn out so well.
Nevertheless we had an impressive flight and could also visit the flight deck (cockpit). Here, with the exception of the GPS in the middle, it still had real analog instruments and real levers.
