Soon half of our stay in New Zealand will be over. This Saturday and next week we have our exams, then we start our big tandem tour.
This or next week (later is not possible) we will get our additional disc brake for the front wheel, after that we will go to Auckland by car. We will get a campervan for free if we transfer it to Auckland within 5 days. We only have to pay the ferry and the gasoline.
Due to our previous driving experience (after all already almost 900km), we decided last Sunday not to drive further north from Auckland. So we will start eastwards, visit the Coromandel Peninsula and drive southwards along the west coast. So we hope to arrive in Wellington after about 1500 km in the middle/end of January and from there cross over to the South Island.
From Picton we will head westward, where we plan to drive along the west coast to the south. In Queenstown we might continue to Te Anau and Invercargill. But we will decide that when we are there and see how much time is left. Finally, we plan to drive via Alexandra and State Highway 8, past Lake Tekapo, to Christchurch, where we will then dismantle our tandem and trailer after another 2000km and make them ready for the journey.
