First rays of sun from 2010
On January 1 we got up relatively early, at 02:00 AM (NZDT). Then we packed our belongings back onto the tandem and trailer and drove the last 3km to East Cape.
There we hiked quickly up to the lighthouse, where we arrived about 1.5h before sunrise. Until sunrise we photographed and shivered ( it was New Zealand-typical windy and relatively cool ) a bit.
Finally we were rewarded with the first sunbeams in 2010, which are seen worldwide (so it is told in any case, according to the world map could possibly deviate).
After hot tea, scrambled eggs and bacon at the lighthouse (we were once again a tourist attraction) we drove back along the gravel road. Then we continued south to Tikitiki, where we camped at a nice backpacker hostel.
