A strong tailwind accompanies us.
After a short drizzle, we were accompanied on this day mainly by strong to very strong wind. The wind was so strong that we felt it clearly even when riding uphill!
The stories of some cyclists were confirmed to us. The southwest wind can be very strong and if you ride in the "wrong" direction, i.e. from Dunedin to Invercargill, you may very well have to push your bike on level ground or hitch a ride downhill. Our only problem was that we had to be careful that the partly sideways gusts of wind did not push us off the road.
In the afternoon we reached the several times recommended campground of Pounawea, where we could put up our tent reasonably protected from the wind
