After arriving in Anchorage, we took advantage of a day's break there to go shopping.
After a restful night in the hotel, we had some things to do in Anchorage. Because we already knew that we can shop in Denali only limited and we will have afterwards until Glennallen no reliable shopping opportunity, we planned to buy food in Anchorage for a week. For this we asked the receptionist for the next supermarket. The fact that we wanted to walk the distance of about one kilometer there was not quite understandable for her.
In the supermarket we spent over an hour to familiarize ourselves with the assortment and to find the most suitable ingredients for the planned recipes/recipe variations. Since weight and packaging sizes are also relevant when transporting by bike, this first shopping trip to Alaska was a challenge.
Afterwards, we also stocked up on bear spray and a US cell phone number.
At the train station we asked about the check-in procedure for our tandem and again unsuccessfully asked for a luggage cart to transport our boxes from the hotel to the train station. Finally, the hotel provided us with a trolley.
After completing all the planned tasks, we had some time to look around the city and learn about the great earthquake of 1964.
