Last stage in North America with crossing of the Golden Gate Bridge!
On our last touring day in the U.S.A. we started early in the morning at an autumnal 5°C. Again, however, we were able to warm up on a hill outside the suburbs of San Francisco.
After the descent, however, we were forced to make a bike service stop and change the brake pads of the rear brake. So we had changed the front and rear brake pads twice on the approximately 4000km.
During the stop&go through the suburbs it seemed to us as if all bike owners were on the road. We also saw countless tandems, so we stopped counting after more than 10.
Around noon we reached the northern end of the Golden Gate Bridge. To get a good view and photo opportunities, we fought our way up next to many cars to a nice viewpoint. Fortunately, we didn't have to stand in line blocking the road like the cars to get a parking spot.
After a few photos, we finally crossed the huge bridge. Due to the massive bike traffic, the crossing was unfortunately more stressful than relaxing. Despite our length, we managed to avoid the pillars and not collide with any oncoming cyclists distracted by the cell phone.
Shortly after the bridge, there were again practically no bicycles on the road. So we could be directed a little more relaxed about mostly smaller Strässlein by the navi and Google Maps through the city in the direction of the airport. With once again really summery temperatures we came due to the very slightly hilly topography of San Francisco at the end once again really sweat! When it became a little flatter near the airport, we even had the pleasure of a wonderful bike path!
Thus we erriechten then after scarcely 6 hours driving time correctly tired the motel.
