First wild camping on our trip.
Since it rained all night and early morning, we got up relatively late but dry. Since we expected only 35km to the next camping (with bakery and creperie), this was no problem for us.
After several times rain clothes on and off, we reached shortly before 14 clock our supposed destination. Unfortunately, we were greeted by a "closed" sign. Since the distance to the next campsite was just over 100km, we were moderately excited.
We decided to make the best of the situation and just drove on. During renewed rain we calculated and discussed the options. The additional 100km were so late and in this weather not reasonable. So after about 50km we decided to look for a place to spend the night. We looked for a place with water (stupidly, we hadn't filled our water bag due to the 35km we had planned), and bear-proof storage for our food.
At the bridge over the Donjek we found it: Next to an old bridge access road we could pitch our tent somewhat hidden and cook. We failed miserably in filtering water from the river, as the filter kept getting clogged by sediments. Fortunately, we got some water from travelers on the other side of the river, so we saved ourselves the tedious filtering and continual filter cleaning.
Although there were trees by our site, we decided to hang our food by the bridge over the river. This seemed much easier than bringing our bags up to the recommended 6m height.
On our trip, we learn a lot by thinking ahead and thinking about it. On this day, probably the most instructive thing was that we too (like the car drivers) should fill up with gas (water instead of gasoline) at every opportunity. After all, that's what the guidebook says.
