Over steep roads back to the Redwoods.
A little before 05:00 in the morning we were woken up by a siren. Kevin immediately got up and looked if there was a danger lurking somewhere. But since the other campers didn't seem to react to this siren and we didn't find any further information on the internet, we let the siren "be siren" and slept on.
Unfortunately, Rana had not slept well that night, not only because of the siren, but also the sunglasses she was lying on disturbed her sleep. Since this was not for the good of the sunglasses, we had found another use for the epoxy resin glue at breakfast: We used it (and Duct-Tape) to glue the sunglasses back together.
Continuing on from the Fairground, we first drove through the village of Ferndale, where there were some old buildings to admire along the main road. The local post office looked like something from another time, as everything in the counter hall was still made of wood. So all mailboxes and also the counter were still quite classically made of wood.
Until we reached the highway again in the small village of Rio Dell, we had to conquer some very steep (>12%) roads.
In the afternoon we reached the Avenue of the Giants. The dark, dense forest with big trees alternated with a landscape similar to the Jura.
At a stopover, a motorist complained about our poor visibility in the forest. We were a bit surprised because we were riding in the forest with rear light, 3 red reflectors and two white reflectors on the bags. Possibly the bad visibility was also due to the high speed and the not switched on light of the car... (according to our previous research cars must not be able to stop in sight).
After Weott, we stayed overnight tightly packed (like sardines in a can) with other cyclists at the Humbolt Redwoods State Park Hiker/Biker Site.
